Art Sponseller, PCC

Art’s extensive senior leadership experience prior to his coaching career included 34 years of leading CEOs and Senior Executives of hospitals and health systems in committee, governing board and public policy initiatives. Internally Art focused on building high functioning teams and creating cultures of psychological safety, trust, and purpose.

Art has coached leaders at hospitals, other healthcare facilities, not-for-profit organizations, a variety of for-profit firms, as well as tech consultant companies.

Prior to executive coaching, Art was a long serving senior executive in healthcare. He retired as President/Chief Executive Officer of the Hospital Council of Northern and Central California (Hospital Council), in 2018. The Council, a trade association, represents more than 190 hospitals and health systems in 50 of California’s 58 Counties. Prior to joining the Hospital Council in 2005, Art served for six years as Chief Operating Officer for the California Hospital Association (CHA). Prior to CHA, Art served for 14 years at the Hospital Association of Southern California. Art has 40 years of healthcare experience, including 17 years specializing in personnel and labor relations matters.

A frequent lecturer and speaker, Art was an adjunct faculty member in the Masters in Health Administration programs at the University of Southern California and the University of LaVerne.

Art received his B.B.A. degree from Eastern Michigan University in 1972 and his J. D. from the Detroit College of Law at Michigan State University in 1983. Art is admitted to the State Bar of California but is currently inactive.

Art received his certificate in Professional Coaching for Life and Work from the University of California, Davis, Extension in June of 2018.
